In-Office Biopsies
In-Office, Minimally Invasive Breast Biopsy
Lumps or masses in the breast are not unusual, and most of them are not cancerous. Often times, if there is an abnormality in your breast, a biopsy will be recommended. There are several different types of biopsies, including ultrasound-guided, stereotactic, and MRI-guided. All of these procedures are performed while you are awake, using a local anesthesia. The tissue samples are then sent to a pathologist for analysis, and the results are usually available within 3-5 days.
Dr. Sandford performs ultrasound-guided core biopsies here in the office, as she is certified by the American Society of Breast Surgeons to perform breast ultrasounds and ultrasound-guided biopsies. If the pathology is benign, Dr. Sandford will discuss your options for future care and potentially suggest that you resume routine follow-ups. If your biopsy shows any abnormalities, additional workups may be necessary in order to determine the most appropriate plan of care.
